Mike Trout Rumors: Dodgers and Giants at the Top of the Trade List for Angels Star
Entering the offseason, the Los Angeles Angels need to figure out how to get themselves back into contention moving forward. This organization has missed the postseason each year since 2014, and things don’t seem to be getting better.
There has been a ton of buzz regarding a potential move of star outfielder Mike Trout this offseason, and it could be a good time to trade him. The team could be entering into a new era, and Trout could net them some prospects and salary relief for the future.
Trout spoke about his future, but reiterated that nothing has changed in regard to his want to stay with the Halos.
“I’ve got seven years left on the contract,” said Trout. “There’s a lot of speculation out there. And like I said, I come in every year, I sit back two to three weeks, enjoy the family, clear my mind and then have conversations with the front office every single offseason. Nothing’s changed.”
If Trout is moved this offseason, the two teams with the best chance to land him are the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, according to BetOnline. Other teams like the New York Yankees, New York Mets and San Diego Padres all remain atop the odds list as well. You can see all of the odds here!
The only issue with the Dodgers on any deal for Trout can be described in two words, Arte Moreno. The Angels long-time owner wouldn’t likely send his former MVP to the Dodgers, even if LA offered the best possible trade package.
Moreno has long seen the Dodgers as a direct rival to the Angels, and he isn’t a fan of the organization. So any trade of Trout to LA would be very unlikely.
But the Giants do make some sense if the Halos would be willing to eat some of the contract that remains for Trout. He is signed through 2030 and is owed over $35 million a season.
The Giants would rather not take that contract on completely, so the Angels would have to foot a good chunk of the bill. It remains to be seen if they would even be open to doing that, making a deal for the star very complicated and unlikely this winter.
The Angels have a lot to figure out this season, including about Trout. But at this current moment, a trade of the former MVP isn’t likely to happen, and he will remain with the team.
