Shohei Ohtani Rumors: New National League Squad Preparing 'Very Lucrative' Offer for Angels Superstar
Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is a hot commodity this offseason. Everyone wants him, but only one team can have him. Who that team will be remains a mystery, but I know all of Orange County and Angels fans don't want anything more than for the Japanese sensation to stay put.
However, his value is at an all-time high, and many contenders will be vying for his talents. Many teams will offer Ohtani a blank check, but none may be more significant than NL Central contenders, the Chicago Cubs.
According to team insider Mike Rodriguez, the Cubs are prepared to offer the 29-year-old a 'lucrative' deal.
That's a very vague statement, but I'm sure we could all assume a deal north of $500 to $550 million if I had to guess. We know one thing: They will offer some serious dough to the three-time All-Star and two-time unanimous MVP.
Could that be the one thing to win over Ohtani: The money? We don't know, and right now, none of us know. According to Draftkings Sportsbook, the Cubs shot up to the second-best odds to sign the two-way star with +350 odds, behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have the best odds at +110.
The Angels, on the other hand, sit with the ninth-best odds at +1600, behind some of their division opponents like the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers. The Cubs just got a new manager and were only one game away from a postseason berth in 2023. Adding Ohtani could certainly put them over the top, and they're putting their money right where their mouth is.
