High-A Rome Emperors Announce Georgia-Themed Alternate Identity
The minor league teams in the Atlanta Braves farm system can never be accused of not being creative.
The High-A Rome Emperors, who dropped their new identity this offseason, have continued with the rebrand by announcing an alternate identity for selected games in the 2024 season:
The Duraznos de Roma.
Translated as "Rome Peaches", it's a rebrand as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversión initiative, a Latino/a outreach initiative running multiple seasons.
Per Minor League Baseball's Copa informational site, the rebrand as Duraznos de Roma is made to not only honor Georgia's official fruit, the peach, but also the influence the fruit plays in Mexican agriculture and cuisine.
Per MiLB, "The peach is the most important fruit species that is cultivated in central and southern Mexico due to the wide distribution and high local demand. The Durazno serves as a cultural bridge in Rome, connecting our deep and powerful Latino community to our historic agricultural success."
Rome joins other Braves affiliates who have unveiled a Copa identity, including AAA Gwinnett (Xolos de Gwinnett, referencing the national dog of Mexico, the Xoloitzcuintli) and Single-A Augusta (Pavos Salvajes de Augusta, a nod to South Carolima's official state wild game bird, the wild turkey.)
Atlanta's AA affiliate, the Mississippi Braves, has yet to announce a Copa alternate identity for the 2024 season.
Rome has begun selling Duraznos merchandise through the team store, with the first series in which the team will wear the branded uniforms in game scheduled for May 3rd-5th. A "Sugar Skull bobblehead" will be the May 4th giveaway to the first 1000 fans through the gates of AdventHealth Stadium.
