WATCH: Marcell Ozuna goes deep, gives Braves another early lead
Beleaguered Yankees starter Luis Severino looked he might wriggle off the hook in the first, but it was not to be. Ronald Acuña Jr. led off the inning with a two-strike single to right-center, and then he took two bases after Severino's errant pickoff attempt sailed down the right-field line.
The New York righty, who's been terrible of late, rallied and induced a weak pop-out from Michael Harris II (batting second again tonight in place of the injured Ozzie Albies), then climbed the ladder for an impressive strikeout of Austin Riley. A lengthy plate appearance from Matt Olson resulted in a walk, bringing Marcell Ozuna to the dish with two outs and men on the corners.
Marcell got a middle-middle hanging slider on the first pitch and bashed it out to straightaway center, staking the Braves and starter Bryce Elder to yet another first-inning lead. Atlanta threatened to add on more, but Severino ultimately avoided further damage. Elder now will attempt to shake off his own recent scuffles and protect this three-run cushion.
Tonight's broadcast is available within Braves Country on Bally Sports South and on TBS and MLB.tv nationwide. The radio call with Ben Ingram is available on 680 The Fan inside the Atlanta metro area, on the Atlanta Braves radio network across the southeast, and on MLB.tv nationwide.
