Cardinals Legend Among Top Candidates For 2024 Hall Of Fame Class
The St. Louis Cardinals are notorious for sending former players to Cooperstown and this year's 2024 Hall Of Fame ballot class might just see another legend enshrined.
This year's ballot is packed with a dense list of superstars and former St. Louis outfielder, Matt Holliday is included.
"The 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot: Bobby Abreu, José Bautista, Carlos Beltrán, Adrián Beltré, Mark Buehrle, Bartolo Colon, Adrián González, Todd Helton, Matt Holliday, Torii Hunter, Andruw Jones, Victor Martinez, Joe Mauer, Andy Pettitte, Brandon Phillips, Manny Ramírez, José Reyes, Álex Rodríguez, Francisco Rodríguez, Jimmy Rollins, Gary Sheffield, James Shields, Chase Utley, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner, David Wright," MLB.com's Mark Feinsand tweeted Monday.
Holliday batted .299, with 816 extra-base hits including 316 home runs, 1220 RBIs and a .889 OPS in 1903 games played between the Colorado Rockies, Cardinals, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics.
Holliday is recognized most for his eight seasons with the Cardinals in which he was voted a four-time All-Star, earned a National League Silver Slugger award, and won a World Series in 2011.
The right-handed outfielder also won three more NL Silver Slugger awards and was a three-time All-Star in six seasons for the Colorado Rockies. Holliday's career stats put him in a legendary category when you also consider that he posted a 44.5 bWAR and 132 OPS+.
This year's HOF ballot will be Holliday's first chance at getting into Cooperstown after ending his 15-season career back in 2018.
The St. Louis legend surely has a steep hill to climb with the star-studded list of HOF candidates on this year's ballot, but perhaps we shall see another Cardinal enshrined.
