Mervis, Morel Thriving At Triple-A For Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs feature plenty of depth.
That’s wonderful.
It could also be a challenge moving forward.
Matt Mervis and Christopher Morel are thriving with Triple-A Iowa and easily could be playing in Wrigley Field now. If they keep playing at such a high level, manager David Ross might have to be chatting with president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer on a daily basis.
They’re likely talking about it already. In fact, they should be.
Mervis is hitting .288 at Triple A and is second in the International League with 21 RBI in 18 games.
Morel is hitting .333 with 7 home runs and an OPS of 1.214. He has hit safely in 15 of the 18 games.
Since Mervis and Morel can play multiple positions, the Cubs remain in a great position.
Injuries can happen in bunches, so if Patrick Wisdom, Trey Mancini, Eric Hosmer or others get sidelined, the Cubs can scoop up this dynamic duo from Triple-A.
It’s a great problem to have.
