Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Praises Diamondbacks Star Rookie Corbin Carroll
This Saturday night marks the start of another Dodgers postseason run at Chavez Ravine against their division rival Diamondbacks.
Arizona completed a rebuild thanks in large part to NL Rookie of the Year favorite Corbin Carroll, a player that LA skipper Dave Roberts said would be key to their upcoming series.
Speed, as they say, doesn't slump, and he can run. So he can get that infield knock. He can homer, which he's done in that last Wild Card series. And he's an exciting player. Really good defender. Hangs in there versus left, hits right. So what does it do? It just creates some tension, if he gets on base. And also with a guy that can slug you, too, you've still got to make good pitches. So I enjoy watching him more from my living room than the other dugout, but they sort of go with him. When he's on base potentially to steal a base, just creates more tension. To keep him off the bases is probably one of our top priorities.
Carroll ranked as one of the fastest players in baseball via StatCast and became the first player in AL/NL history to reach 25 home runs and 50 steals in his rookie year.
Such a stat line is a testament to his vast skill set in both power and on the basepaths, something that the Dodgers are surely well aware of after seeing him often as an NL West foe.
The rookie sensation dominated in the Wild Card Series against the Brewers and was crucial in both wins to send Milwaukee packing for the winter.
Though the Dodgers boast their talented rookie outfielder in James Outman, all eyes will be on Arizona's golden goose in what should be an exciting NLDS series.
