This season the Dodgers have had a multitude of rookies make their way into the lineup. As the new guys still figure out their way in the MLB, Dave Roberts is still giving them praise despite their performances.

The latest edition of Roberts complimenting rookies came Thursday night after Bobby Miller was unable to complete four innings against the Padres.

Miller did not have his strongest start of the season. Through 3.2 innings, the 24-year-old conceded six hits and two runs on 82 pitches.

He was pulled after in the fourth when there were runners on first and third and two outs. Even though the runner scored from third on a passed ball from Joe Kelly, the damage was minimized.

Roberts noted how Miller is still learning to get through stressful moments in his big league starts.

“I think for Bobby, every start, the goal and the expectation is he takes something from it,” Roberts said. “I think today it was clear he was stressing in four innings. When you don’t get that leadoff guy out, you’re going to stress.“I felt right there it was time for a change. It was still a good outing for Bobby, but I still feel like there’s some growth in there. I thought he made some good pitches, but again, it’s that leadoff hitter that we have to be mindful of.” (Via Orange County Register)

Miller started his MLB career on fire. Through his first four career starts, he had a 0.76 ERA. As more film was made about him, Miller has not been as dominant as he was in those first starts.

Since then his ERA has risen to 4.26.

As the rookie continues to gain experience, the Dodgers are hoping that he could be a key part of the rotation for years to come.

He has shown his potential, now it's time for Miller to reach it.
