Midway through the season, the Dodgers are clawing their way back into the top of the NL West, but not without some changes being made to their current roster.

Unsurprisingly, the Dodgers have optioned Infielder, Miguel Vargas, the team announced Sunday.

Vargas has had a disappointing year, so this transaction is not a surprise to anyone at all.

The first-year Dodger has been hitting a pedestrian .195 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 81 games. The decision is based on his recent stretch of a miserable 5-63 (.079) in his last 23 games.

This situation can be seen as a prime example of how good the Dodgers farm system can be to players like Vargas as it can be used as a way to continue to develop him while he gets his swing back.

So to say the least, this isn't the last time Vargas will see the field at Dodger Stadium, but rather a time to get his swing back in the minors.

Fans should expect the Dodgers to make a move that corresponds with optioning Vargas back to the minors as they prepare to welcome back Chris Taylor from the injury list as soon as Friday.

The Dodgers are off due to the all-star break and will resume play when they go on the road to take on the Mets in New York next week.
