Dodgers NLDS: How Has Lance Lynn Performed Over His Postseason Career?
The Dodgers' worst fears of poor starting pitching dooming their October hopes has unfortunately reared its ugly head after two games in the NLDS.
Both Clayton Kershaw and Bobby Miller failed to go two innings each of their respective starts in Games 1 and 2 of the team's opening series against the Diamondbacks.
Arizona took full advantage of LA's incomplete rotation as they scored nine runs across both first innings that Kershaw and Miller pitched to start the series.
Now with an 0-2 deficit, Dave Roberts hands the ball over to veteran Lance Lynn with LA's season completely on life support.
Lynn's time with the Dodgers turned out to be a godsend after Julio Urias, Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin all failed to complete their seasons due to a domestic violence arrest for the former and the latter two suffering elbow injuries.
An inning eater, fierce competitor and great teammate, Lynn pitched better for LA in his two months with the team but also failed to keep the ball in the park much like his time in Chicago.
Now the question on everyone's mind has to be just how good has Lynn been in his postseason career with no margin for error left in the Dodgers' 2023 season.
Lance Lynn's Postseason Career
Lynn spent the majority of his career with the Cardinals and went on five postseason runs in his time with St. Louis.
His best years came in 2011 and 2014 after he first won a World Series as a reliever and then pitched to a 3.09 ERA in two starts in that later year.
However, since he's left St. Louis, Lynn's postseason play hasn't been desirable in the slightest.
In two appearances with the 2018 Yankees, Lynn gave up three runs across two and a third postseason innings.
Even after his Cy Young-caliber season in 2021 as a White Sox starter, his lone postseason outing against Houston ended after five earned runs before the fourth inning ended.
With recent history against them and their projected game-three starter, LA's chances at beating the odds look rather bleak with their last resort set to pitch in the most important game of the season.
