Giants Seem to Be Taking Shot at Dodgers' World Series Win With Promotional Giveaway

This is an unexpected gesture from a division rival.

One of the best parts of going to any baseball game is when there's a promotion. As a way of promoting the organization, recognizing one of the players, or paying homage to a historic franchise moment, the small tokens received that day can last a lifetime.

The San Francisco Giants have used one of their 81 home games not to promote their own team, but to seemingly recognize the 2020 World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. On June 30, when the Dodgers visit the Giants at Oracle Park, the first 15,000 fans will receive Mickey Mouse ears as a part of "Disneyland Day."

While there's no way of knowing exactly why they're doing this, it appears that they are "commemorating" the title the Dodgers won during the 2020 COVID-shortened season.

It's a rare occurrence that a division rival promotes another team's accomplishment rather than any of their own. Even stranger considering the Giants won three World Series not that long ago in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Since those days, though, it's been tough to be a San Francisco fan. The Dodgers have dominated the division, winning 11 of the last 12 division titles. They have a 96-79 record against the Giants since 2014 including the only playoff matchup between the two franchises in 2021, when the Dodgers won the NLDS, three games to two.

Then, the Giants have to sit idly by as premier free agents choose other organizations over their own. Aaron Judge and Trea Turner both reportedly took less money than the Giants' offer to sign with the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, respectively. This offseason alone, San Francisco has had to watch Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto choose Los Angeles over them despite reportedly prioritizing them over all other free agents.

If you're in the Bay Area, be sure to head over to Oracle Park to support the Boys in Blue. This could be the only time the Giants ever hand out Dodgers-related memorabilia.
