Guardians’ Andrés Giménez Extends Hitting Streak In Game 1 Loss To Yankees
The Cleveland second baseman is now tied for the longest active hitting streak in the American League, and second-longest active streak in MLB.
The Cleveland Guardians fell to the New York Yankees by a final score of 3-2 in Game 1 of a split doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the defeat, one offensive bright spot for Cleveland was second baseman Andrés Giménez.
The 25-year-old went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of singles and a strikeout. He was the only Guardians player to record a multi-hit game in the contest, as the team tallied a total of five hits.
With his latest performance, the reigning American League Platinum Glove Award winner now has an eight-game hitting streak. This streak is tied for the longest active hitting streak in the American League with Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo. It is also tied for the second-longest active streak in MLB with Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras.

During this span, Giménez is hitting .344 with 11 hits, three doubles, two RBI, one walk, one stolen base, a .417 on-base percentage, and an .855 OPS.
Giménez began his day offensively with an opposite-field single in the bottom of the first inning. He then recorded another base knock five innings later, which was the second of two straight Cleveland singles to begin the bottom of the sixth inning. Giménez was eventually one of two Guardians runners to score on a New York throwing error, which made it a 3-2 game.
Up next, Cleveland will look to split Saturday’s doubleheader when the team hosts the Yankees for the second game of this weekend's three-game series at 6:10 p.m.
