Astros Reportedly Interested In Reunion With Mets Star Pitcher Justin Verlander

The New York Mets have a very difficult decision to make shortly.
New York is in a tough spot and more likely than not will be sellers ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline. The Mets have gotten started early and already have dealt stud closer David Robertson to the Miami Marlins and there likely will be more moves shortly.
One player who has had his name in trade rumors lately and could find himself playing elsewhere by the August 1 trade deadline is Mets star, Justin Verlander. There has been plenty of speculation about the three-time Cy Young Award winner and it's starting to sound like a move could happen and one team that could have some interest is the Houston Astros, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
"Verlander spent the first month of the season on the injured list, then struggled to find a groove during his first nine starts, regularly alternating good and bad outings," Feinsand said. "Since June 26, Verlander is 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA in six starts, averaging more than six innings per outing.
"Another club said to be interested is the Astros, the team with which Verlander pitched from September 2017 through the end of the 2022 season. One executive pegged a surprise sleeper team in a potential Verlander sweepstakes: the Reds."
Verlander was traded to the Astros during the 2017 campaign and remained with the club through the 2022 season. Over his four-and-a-half seasons with Houston, the righty racked up three of his nine All-Star appearances and a Cy Young Award. It's unclear if he will actually be traded, but a reunion could be in the works.
