Dodgers, Mets Reportedly Linked In Potential Trade Deadline Deal Involving Former All-Star

The New York Mets likely will be one of the busiest teams ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.
New York has been disappointing this season and currently sits in fourth place in the National League East with a 46-53 record. The Mets likely won't contend for a World Series title this season, but the club still is loaded with talent and should be in a much better position next season. Because of this, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the Mets unload some talent, but retain their core and not enter a full rebuild.
Star duo Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer have had their names in trade rumors lately, but likely won't be going anywhere. A player much more likely to be on the move is closer David Robertson and one team that reportedly could be a potential fit is the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
"It remains to be seen whether the Mets decide to become big-time sellers (think Max Scherzer and/or Justin Verlander), but the 38-year-old Robertson is headed back to free agency after signing a one-year, $10 million deal with New York last offseason," Feinsand. "Robertson has excelled in both setup and closing roles and has a wealth of postseason experience, making him a fit for virtually every contender out there. Potential fits: Dodgers, (Philadelphia Phillies), (Tampa Bay Rays)."
Robertson has been in trade rumors frequently lately as chatter intensifies ahead of the August 1 trade deadline. The one-time All-Star has been terrific for New York this season and has compiled a 2.08 ERA in 39 appearances and should be a big lift for a contender. Los Angeles makes perfect sense in a move, as well as the Phillies, and Rays. Pretty much any team that has a chance at winning the World Series this season could use someone like Robertson in the backend of their bullpen.
We should see a move very shortly as the Mets decide their next move.
