Ex-All-Star, Gold Glove Winner Reportedly Available; Should Mets Give Outfielder Chance?

The New York Mets have turned their focus to the 2024 campaign.
New York arguably was baseball's biggest seller ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and now will be taking a serious look at its roster as it attempts to figure out how to improve heading into next season. There are sure to be many players getting an extended opportunity over the next few months to show the front office what they can do.
One position where the Mets could use more depth would be in the outfielder right now. The Mets dealt away Tommy Pham and Mark Canha ahead of the trade deadline so it wouldn't be too surprising to see the club add someone in free agency or from the minor leagues. One player that could make some sense is veteran outfielder Corey Dickerson who recently became a free agent.
Dickerson at one point was one of the top left fielders in baseball and earned an All-Star nod in 2017 and Gold Glove Award in 2018 but injuries and inconsistent play have slowed him down since. The 34-year-old has appeared in over 100 games in a season just once since 2018 but still has shown plenty of offensive upside. Now that he's cleared waivers after recently being unconditionally released by the Washington Nationals, he can sign anywhere as a free agent.
New York could make some sense as a potential destination. The Mets may have some playing time to spare and Dickerson could be a solid depth piece. There's no way to know for sure if a move will happen but one could make sense.
