Mets Linked To Two-Time All-Star As Possible Free Agent Option

Should the Mets bring in the two-time All-Star?

The New York Mets already have improved the club this offseason.

New York is in a much better place than it was at the beginning of the offseason. The Mets had an underwhelming 2023 campaign and although the club hasn't made a massive signing, they have made multiple smaller moves with upside.

The Mets should be better in 2024, but the club doesn't seem on par with World Series contenders like the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Yankees, though. It seems like the 2025 campaign is a more realistic option for the Mets to contend.

One player who is available in free agency and has been mentioned as a fit for the Mets is two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"The Mets have done a nice job overall deepening a thin rotation and have the best (National League) closer, but the bridge between the starters and their closer still looks unstable, at best," Heyman said. "Brandon Woodruff would be a great option for the Mets since he’ll be healthy in 2025 and presumably back to ace status. Mets president David Stearns knows him from Milwaukee."

Woodruff seems like a very solid option and may fit New York's World Series contention timeline. The 30-year-old will miss the 2024 campaign but will return to the mound in 2025.

If the Mets were to sign Woodruff to a two-year deal, he could provide the club the top-of-the-rotation hurler they need at a significantly discounted rate. The Mets have plenty of pieces in place and landing someone like Woodruff could only help.
