Mets Sign ex-Yankees Catcher Gary Sanchez to Minor League Deal

On Tuesday, the Mets signed former Yankees All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez to a minor league deal.
Sanchez will report to Triple-A Syracuse, per multiple reports.
Sanchez signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants on March 31. The 30-year-old played in 16 games with their Triple-A team, slashing .164/.319/.182 with no home runs and eight RBIs.
On May 2, Sanchez opted out of his deal with the Giants and became a free agent.
Sanchez, of course, was a two-time All-Star for the Yankees and one of the best hitting catchers in the game from 2016-2019.
But after two poor seasons in a row, plus the fact that he was a liability behind the plate, the Yankees shipped Sanchez and Gio Urshela to the Minnesota Twins last year for Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt.
After another down season with the Twins, Sanchez could not draw a major league deal this past offseason.
The Mets took a flyer on Sanchez and will now try to revive his career in the minor leagues. At the big-league level, the Mets have the tandem of Francisco Alvarez and Tomas Nido. Veteran Omar Narvaez is also expected back some time in June.
