Padres Rumors: Friars Were in on Lucas Giolito Before Trade to the Angels
A source claims the Padres wanted Lucas Giolito from the Chicago White Sox before the Angels acquired him earlier this week. The New York Post was the first to report the Padres’ interest.
This rumor doesn’t make sense, except if the Padres wanted to get Giolito, so the Dodgers couldn’t get Giolito.
The Dodgers lead the Padres by nine games in the National League Western Division, and the Dodgers need pitching badly.
Meanwhile, the Padres have the best pitching in the National League, and many pundits are speculating whether the Padres will sell off some of their pitching. Friday night's win helps the front office hold off on selling.
This year, the Padres have needed offense, especially players who can hit for high batting averages and more consistently. If they wanted to trade Giolito for an offensive player or keep Giolito and trade another starter, the proposed trade would make sense for the Padres.
At any rate, it's all a moot point as Giolito is an Angel and the Padres are looking more likely to stand pat and play with what they have on the roster which may be getting a bit better in the coming weeks with guys like Michael Wacha returning from injury.
