Insider Links Philadelphia Phillies To Former MVP

A former MVP has been linked to the Philadelphia Phillies in free agency.

The Philadelphia Phillies offseason, in ways, has been a disappointment. It's clear that they have a World Series roster, but with the moves that the Los Angeles Dodgers and others made, adding an impact player would go a long way to help the Phillies compete for another championship.

Philadelphia does have options if they believe they need to land another player. Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and Cody Bellinger are three of the top remaining names on the market.

With Spring Training games starting at the end of February, there's a chance that price tags go down. If that's the case, the Phillies could make a last-minute move and shock Major League Baseball.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post had the latest on a Bellinger decision. He linked the Phillies to the former MVP, hinting that they could offense in center field.

"The Giants, Mariners and Angels are also logical for Bellinger. And here’s one completely speculative landing spot: Philadelphia. The Phillies are consistently successful in free agency, and they got almost nothing offensively out of center field in October."

Bellinger, 28 years old, revived his career last season with the Chicago Cubs. After winning an MVP in 2019, the left-handed slugger didn't find much success at the plate during the last few years of his tenure with the Dodgers.

Given his performances in other major cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, Philadelphia could be a good spot for him. No fans are tougher than Philly fans, but Los Angeles and Chicago aren't easy places to play.

Signing Bellinger would give the Phillies another legitimate player who can produce for them when it matters most.

The price tag might be a bit higher than what Dave Dombrowski would like, although the return could be worth that investment.

This is quietly a great pairing and one that wouldn't be surprising to see happen.
