Largest Question Philadelphia Phillies Face Heading into 2024 Season

The Philadelphia Phillies were able to keep their core intact when they re-signed Aaron Nola toa seven-year, $172 million contract in what essentially kicked off MLB free agency. 

Nola will remain a Phillies for life, presumably, and the Phillies haven't pretty well addressed their rotation for the 2024 MLB season. 

Still, they were willing to go after Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but lost out to the Los Angeles Dodgers who offered a 12-year, $325 million deal. 

Still, Philadelphia has one significant question left before the 2024 MLB season kicks off according to MLB.com and that's "what else?"

"The Phillies are not finished building their 2024 roster, but what will those additions look like? They have said for more than a month that they will be more complementary in nature," writes Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. "Of course, the Phillies took a run at free-agent right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but he was the one player they seemed willing to blow past the next luxury tax threshold for. It seems more likely at this point that the Phillies look for another outfielder and another bullpen arm."

It does make one wonder though, if Philadelphia was willing to dish out hundreds of millions for Yamamoto, could they make a huge play for an outfielder like Cody Bellinger or even take a run at Snell now that the market is set?

Adding a third elite pitcher to the rotation or an elite outfielder would make the Phillies one of the scariest teams in baseball. But they're gonna need it if they hope to contend for a World Series. Especially if they run into the Dodgers in the NLCS.

Still, Philadelphia is well positioned to make another deep run this season even without any more splashy additions.
