Philadelphia Phillies Lose Two Players From Waiver Claims

The Philadelphia Phillies have had two players claimed off waivers by American League East teams.

At this point in the offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing their roster to have who they want to see during Spring Training on it.

With that comes designating different players for assignment, opening up the possibility that other teams around the league can claim them off waivers and add these players to their organizations.

The Phillies received some good news when two of their players passed through waivers without being claimed, allowing Philadelphia to outright them to their Triple-A affiliate.

One of those players was Andrew Bellatti, who was heavily used out of their bullpen in 2022, but regressed last season. The hope is he can return to form and contribute this year.

However, the Phillies weren't so lucky with two other players they designated for assignment to make room on their 40-man roster.

According to Roch Kubatko of MASN, the Baltimore Orioles have claimed infielder Diego Castillo off waivers.

The 26-year-old has had a swirling offseason, being claimed and subsequently designated for assignment by two separate teams before Philadelphia added him to their roster.

The Phillies' own social media account also announced that the New York Yankees claimed right-handed pitcher McKinley Moore off waivers as well.

After being acquired in a trade from the Chicago White Sox in 2022, the 25-year-old spent the majority of his time with Philadelphia's Double-A and Triple-A affiliates.

Moore appeared in three Major League games last year, but had a brutal performance, allowing seven earned runs on five hits across 3 1/3 innings pitched.

Overall, these aren't big losses for the Phillies this year as neither would likely have seen a lot of playing time in the MLB.
