Philadelphia Phillies Stars Build Hype Around New 'City Connect' Uniforms
After the long wait, the Philadelphia Phillies will finally unveil their new "City Connect" uniforms with many of their star players hyping them up.
On Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies will finally reveal their new "City Connect" uniforms they're getting this year that have replaced the red jerseys.
Some fans might already have an idea of how these will look after some leaks were released online, but the official uniforms will be on display at their team store located at Citizens Bank Park.
With anything new there are bound to be critics, and so far, these jerseys have been no different.
But the players have done their job to hype up this new look, with many star players talking very highly about them, saying they're excited to be wearing these at every Friday home game for the remainder of the season.
"I’m pretty excited about ours," Bryson Stott said previously.
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com went a bit more in depth with other players on the team to get their thoughts.
"They're beautiful," Jose Alvarado told him. "It's something new, it's something different for the city."
If they truly are the blue and yellow colorway that was leaked online, then that will certainly be something new that the Phillies will be wearing.
Right now, their four uniforms are the home red pinstripes, home creams, home powder blues, and road grays. Under Nike's "4+1" rule, these new City Connects will be the fifth official jersey style they are allowed to have.
Bryce Harper sounds excited to debut these against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 12.
"I really like them. I think this is going to be something that is very cool for everybody. I think once people see the jersey and the entire uniform, they're going to like the look. They'll like how it all comes together," he told Zolecki.
Early opinions haven't been necessarily positive. Maybe that's based on how different they'll look from what they have traditionally worn in the past, but Stott says that's how these should be.
"They're the City Connects, so they are supposed to be different and a lot different than anything you have. I think they're cool. There are some cool accents and fonts and stuff that I really like."
Philadelphia didn't originally address things when this supposed jersey was leaked online. They've held things close to their vest, waiting until the official launch to come.
Whether the fans enjoy the look or not will be determined Friday, but Trea Turner hopes that this is something they like.
"I think we have cool, classic stuff, so I think to add some flair to that will be cool ... I think they did a good job. I just hope the fans like them. Really, that's kind of why we’re doing them, right? For me, if the fans like them, I think that means more to me than what I think."
The wait will finally be over Friday as the Phillies reveal the fifth jersey in their rotation.
