Phillies Viewed as Team Facing Make or Break Season
After blowing a 3-2 lead to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLCS, the Philadelphia Phillies are looking to put that behind them and complete the task in 2024. It was a disappointing ending to an interesting season, but it was clear throughout the year that the Phillies had another gear they could play at.
Injuries slowed the team down and Trea Turner was a shell of himself for most of the year. Depending on health and Turner's production, Philadelphia should be better next season.
However, Will Letich of MLB.com says that the Phillies are one of the six teams facing a make-or-break season this year.
He expressed that the opportunity to get back to the World Series doesn't happen often and last year's loss could be one they look back on and regret.
Philadelphia certainly regret their collapse last year, regardless of what happens this season. They had a golden opportunity to make it to the World Series in consecutive seasons and failed to finish the job.
The age of the roster is the one factor to look for when it comes to the Phillies in 2024. This is an older team, and while that's valuable come playoff time, it does lead to questions regarding a potential make-or-break season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers made significant moves and the Atlanta Braves were the best team in baseball during the regular season. The Dodgers have had their postseason struggles, but with this roster, it would be shocking to see them disappoint again.
Expectations are high for the Braves, too, after flaming out in the postseason.
This Philadelphia core isn't getting any younger and will need to take advantage of any of the remaining seasons they have together.
