Under The Radar Phillies Prospect Predicted to Breakout in 2024

An under-the-radar Philadelphia Phillies prospect is one to watch out for in the 2024 season.

The Philadelphia Phillies are in a position to let some of their prospects develop in the minors. With a talented, veteran roster, it's tough for young players to get their chance on this team.

However, having prospects who can help the team is important for more reasons than just one.

As Philadelphia continues to push for a World Series, they'll need to make trades. Even if they're small trades, having the prospects to move is a necessity for them. If a player gets injured and the big league club needs help, they'll also need prospects to come up and fill those roles for a few games.

While other contending teams don't have that luxury, the Phillies have the perfect mix. The big league team is good enough to let them develop and if they were to deal with injuries, the prospects are good enough to come up and help them out.

MLB.com's Jim Callis and Sam Dykstra predicted the prospects primed to break out in '24, which featured Philadelphia's No. 26 ranked prospect, Nikau Pouaka-Grego.

While he won't help the team in the near future due to his age, he's one of the players who's going to benefit greatly from developing in the minors.

"The infielder showed an impressive approach with just a 12.8 percent strikeout rate and a 16/16 K/BB ratio over 35 games in the Florida Complex League in 2022, and the retention of that skill shouldn’t be affected by the knee injury," they write.

He dealt with a torn ACL in 2023 but has the potential to make some noise in 2024 after his year of recovery.

Pouaka-Grego is a second baseman and third baseman with a good enough bat to give him a chance to make the Major League roster one day.

The 19-year-old will have plenty of time to continue developing within the Phillies' pipeline and he will be another one of their young prospects that could take massive leaps in the coming years.
