How Season Series Went for Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023

This was the only game in the series that the Rangers won, as they overcame a 4-1 deficit after three innings to beat the Diamondbacks at Globe Life Field. Zac Gallen, who will start Game 1 of the World Series for Arizona, took a no-decision, as he gave up three runs and seven hits in five innings. The Rangers jumped on his relievers, Scott McGough and Kyle Nelson, to score the remaining runs.

Rangers shortstop Ezequiel Duran — playing in place of the injured Corey Seager — had the big hit for the Rangers, with a two-run home run in the sixth inning that gave the Rangers the lead for good. Reliever Brock Burke ended up taking the victory, coming in in starter Jon Gray.

It was a see-saw game in the finale at Globe Life Field. The Diamondbacks were up 3-2 after four innings and then scored three in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. The Rangers answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. But Arizona answered with five runs in the seventh and took the lead for good.

Arizona’s Christian Walker hit two home runs, while Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each hit one. Walker also drove in five runs. The Rangers got home runs from Jonah Heim, Josh Jung — who hit two — and Leody Taveras. All came off Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt. Joe Mantiply took the win in relief for Arizona. Rangers starter Andrew Heaney went just 4 2/3 innings and gave up six runs, while Josh Sborz took the loss in relief.

The opener at Chase Field went 11 innings and the Rangers were just starting a swoon that would eventually cost them first place in the AL West. Texas took the lead in the 11th with a two-run double by Nathaniel Lowe. But the Diamondbacks answered with an RBI double by Geraldo Perdomo, followed by a two-run double by Tommy Pham, which won the game.

The Rangers wasted a gem by starter Jordan Montgomery, who gave up four hits and no runs in eight innings. Arizona tied the game in the ninth with a solo home run by Ketel Marte. Rangers reliever Will Smith took the loss and blew a save, while reliever Aroldis Chapman also blew a save. Kevin Ginkel took the win in relief for Arizona, one of his nine wins on the season.

Zac Gallen got a measure of revenge after his no-decision in May, as he claimed the win to improve to 14-5 on the season. Arizona jumped on the Rangers for a 5-0 lead after the first five innings, as Jon Gray gave up all five of those Arizona runs, which put the Rangers in a hole.

Arizona didn’t hit a home run, but Gabriel Moreno doubled and rookie Corbin Carroll drove in two runs. Mitch Garver homered for the Rangers, while Marcus Semien and Leody Taveras each doubled.
