Texas Rangers Rally To Finish Sweep of Cleveland Guardians

The Texas Rangers rallied to score four runs in the eighth inning to complete a sweep of the Cleveland Guardians.

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to sweep the Cleveland Guardians with a 6-5 win Sunday afternoon at Globe Life Field.

The Rangers, trailing 5-2 in the eighth, started their one-out rally with a pair of walks by Marcus Semien and Corey Seager. Nathaniel Lowe, Adolis Garcia, and Josh Jung followed with a run-scoring single, run-scoring double, and two-run single.

It's the Rangers first sweep since taking three from the Seattle Mariners on June 4.

"Two great comebacks in this series off of a very good bullpen," Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. "The guys fought hard the whole series."

The Rangers open a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Globe Life Field.

Rangers Sweep a Good Omen?

The Rangers swept the Guardians on Sunday, their first sweep since June 4 when they swept the Seattle Mariners.

It's also the first time the Rangers have opened the second half with a sweep since 2011, the last time they reached the World Series. Plus, it's the first time they've swept Cleveland since 2011.

Martin Perez Better, But ...

Starter Martin Perez allowed three runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. 

The Guardians scored on Steven Kwan's lead-off homer in the first inning and added two more in the second inning on Kwan's two-run single. 

It was a marked improvement over Perez's previous start when he was tagged for six runs on six hits, including three homers, in 1 1/3 innings against the Houston Astros on July 3.

More Highs For Lowe

Nathaniel Lowe was 2 for 4 with two RBIs on Sunday, including a key RBI single in the eighth inning in the middle of the Rangers' four-run rally.
