Royals vs. Brewers: Live Updates, May 6, 2024

Follow along as the Royals take on the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers in the first game of the series.

The Kansas City Royals took down the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 in a home series-opening win on Monday evening.

All of Kansas City's runs came in a wild seventh inning, but the Royals' bats were ice-cold to start the game against the NL Central-leading Brewers as they recorded just one hit through the first six innings.

However, besides a two-run home run by catcher Gary Sanchez, pitcher Cole Ragans and the defense did enough to keep Milwaukee's offense to a minimum, which helped the Royals offense finally wake up for the seventh frame.

How It Happened...

8:38 p.m.: Reliever Chris Stratton closes things out in Kansas City with a double play and a ground out. FINAL: Royals 3, Brewers 2.

8:23 p.m.: Perez singles to left and Massey follows it with a sacrifice fly to open up the bottom of the eighth inning, but that would end up being Kansas City's only offense.

8:18 p.m.: After allowing a hit and a walk to open up the top of the eighth inning, the Royals took out reliever Tyler Duffey and replaced him with Will Smith who got Kansas City out of the frame unharmed on the scoreboard.

8:04 p.m.: Massey homered to right center (412 feet) and Garcia singled to center, Frazier scored and Velázquez scored, Blanco to second, Garcia to second, Blanco safe at third on fielding error. Royals 3, Brewers 2.

7:45 p.m.: Relief pitcher Nick Anderson fills in for Ragans in the top of the seventh inning and strikes out two Brewers.

7:37 p.m.: Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia walks for the second time and Witt follows suit on four-straight balls, but first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino grounded into a double play which eventually left Garcia stranded on third to end the bottom of the sixth inning.

7:26 p.m.: Two groundouts and Ragans' eighth strikeout make for a short top of the sixth inning.

7:19 p.m.: Royals fly out twice and line out for third consecutive 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth.

7:14 p.m.: Ragans earns his seventh strikeout in quick top of the fifth inning.

7:07 p.m.: Perez strikes out, Michael Massey pops out and Renfroe lines out in the bottom of the fourth inning.

7 p.m.: Shortstop Willy Adames logs the Brewers' first hit of the game, and two batters later, catcher Gary Sanchez homers to left center (427 feet) in the top of the fourth inning. Brewers 2, Royals 0.

6:53 p.m.: Royals batters go 1-2-3 yet again, including another strikeout to tally for Wilson in the bottom of the third inning.

6:48 p.m.: Ragans fans the first two batters and the third grounds out to wrap up a quick top of the third inning.

6:42 p.m.: Right fielder Hunter Renfroe gets the game's first hit with a single, but Brewers pitcher Bryse Wilson records his second and third strikeout of the evening to close the bottom of the second inning.

6:34 p.m.: Besides an intentional walk to Brewers right fielder Sal Frelick, the other three batters lined out, grounded-out and flew out in top of the second inning.

6:26 p.m.: Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. (fielder's choice) and catcher Salvador Perez (hit by pitch) stranded on first and second base in bottom of the first inning.

6:17 p.m.: Royals pitcher Cole Ragans strikes out two of the first three batters, but walks one in the top of the first inning.
