Twins announce Santana, Jackson, Weiss signings; 3 players DFA'd
The Minnesota Twins on Wednesday formally announced the signings of first baseman/designated hitter Carlos Santana and right-handed reliever Jay Jackson, while also claiming right-handed reliever Zack Weiss off waivers from the Red Sox.
Count 'em up and that's three players that the Twins needed to clear roster spots for, which led to the Twins designating relievers Jordan Balazovic and Daniel Duarte, and outfielder Bubba Thompson, for assignment.
Weiss, 31, has spent the majority of the past decade in the minors. He actually pitched at Triple-A for the Twins in 2019 and he posted a 9.28 ERA in six appearances. Last season he made 12 relief appearances, six each for the Red Sox and Angels, and he posted a 2.08 ERA during his stint with Boston.
