Twins, Tigers postponed Thursday; doubleheader Saturday

A rainy Thursday in Detroit leads to split doubleheader Saturday.

Thursday's series opener between the Twins and Tigers has been postponed due to rain and the AL Central foes will instead open the series on Friday and then make up Thursday's game with a split doubleheader on Saturday.

Game 1 of the Saturday doubleheader will start at 12:10 p.m. CT, with the second game starting approximately 40 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

Michigan is getting a soaking from a strengthening low pressure system that is forecast to consistently produce rain in Detroit throughout the day, and the 12:10 p.m. CT first pitch had no chance of happening.

"Periods of rain will continue to develop across southeast Michigan through Friday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches," says the National Weather Service.

It's unclear how the Twins and Tigers will address the starting pitching, but if it's as simple as pushing each starter back one day then we could still get the anticipated matchup between Pablo Lopez and Tarik Skubal on Friday.

Friday's game, which is scheduled to start at 5:40 p.m., should be dry.
