SI senior writer Tom Verducci breaks down why the veteran shortstops hitting the free agent market this year might not get the big contracts they may deserve.

Didi Gregorious, Andrelton Simmons, and Marcus Semien all are free agents this offseason and despite being very strong shortstops, they may not get those huge free agent contracts that we've come to expect from talent of that caliber.

Between Cleveland Indians All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor being on the trade market this season, and the slew of superstar shortstops hitting free agency next offseason (Corey Seager, Javier Baez, Carlos Correa, and Trevor Story), teams may wait a year for that big free agent shortstop or go with some young talent they've been grooming.

Its a tough time to be a veteran shortstop.
