Injuries Already An Issue For New York Yankees
As the New York Yankees approach one of the biggest seasons in franchise history, health is wealth. If the Yankees continue to deal with injuries just as they have throughout the past few years, they can expect similar disappointing results.
Unfortunately, that's already starting in for New York.
Bryan Hoch reports that Jose Trevino had a calf strain a couple of weeks ago and won't be available to play in the first few games of Spring Training.
A calf strain isn't the end all be all, but the fact that this is starting already is a concern.
Trevino, 31 years old, is a former All-Star and Platinum Glove winner. He's regarded as one of the top defensive catchers in baseball and is needed for the Yankees to be at their best.
Austin Wells, who already had a chance to compete for the starting catching position, will have an even better opportunity to be New York's Opening Day catcher.
For a team whose season is dependent on how healthy they're going to be, the Yankees have to avoid every possible injury they can. Spring Training allows players to rehab any small injuries they have and it looks like Trevino will be doing that during camp.
It's not uncommon for players to come into Spring Training with minor injuries.
It won't be surprising when others leave with minor injuries, too.
However, New York fans are begging for a healthy season as that's been one of the main reasons why they haven't accomplished their task of winning a World Series.
