Newly Acquired Yankees Star Ranked Top-10 at Position
The New York Yankees' decision to trade for Juan Soto was one that the club is hopeful will reward them down the line. The left-handed pure hitter is one of the best players in baseball and has a real chance to be the top hitter in the game.
In MLB Network's top-10 right fielders list, Soto was ranked the No. 3 right fielder in baseball. He was selected behind Ronald Acuna Jr. and Kyle Tucker.
Acuna, the reigning MVP, had an incredible season in 2023. Tucker can do everything on the field, but there's certainly an argument that Soto's the better player.
The American League East had three players in the top-10, including George Spring (No. 6), and Josh Lowe (No. 10).
Soto, 25 years old, posted a 5.5 WAR and slashed .275/.410/.519 last season. He hit 35 home runs and drove in 109 runs for the San Diego Padres.
It's exciting for New York fans to think about the possibilities of what he does at Yankee Stadium. If he's done what he shows us he can do throughout his six-year MLB career, Soto can hit 40-plus home runs.
The power will be a huge part of the Yankees' offense, but it's also important to remember Soto is much more than just a power hitter. He makes things happen at the plate, getting on base at a high rate, even when he's not hitting home runs.
The ideal situation should be that he comes in and continues doing what he's done, not changing things up to try to hit home runs over the right-field porch.
This should be a major addition to New York's lineup, alongside a healthy Aaron Judge, that gets them back competing for a division title and, ideally, a World Series championship.
