Yankees Ranked as Second 'Likeliest' Destination for Cy Young Winner

The New York Yankees are viewed as one of the top destinations for a Cy Young winning pitcher.

The New York Yankees' interest in starting pitching is well known. After the team missed out on Japanese phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto, their focus shifted in other directions.

Of the available free agents, Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell are two names who continue to be rumored when it comes to potential Yankees' targets.

Snell, however, could be the one who ends up in the Bronx.

According to Will Leitch of MLB.com, New York is the second likeliest destination for the 2023 Cy Young Award winner.

Leitch questions if the reason fans are interested in Montgomery is because he's pitched for the club already.

The one concern for the Yankees could potentially be the amount of left-handers they have in the rotation. With Snell, Nestor Cortes, and Carlos Rodon, that could become an issue at some point.

However, Rodon has been a sub-3.00 ERA arm in the past, Snell is coming off of a Cy Young-winning season, and Cortes, despite the struggles last season, posted a 2.44 ERA in 158 1/3 innings pitched in 2022, so the rotation should still be strong.

When these three left-handers are at their best, they're three of the toughest pitchers to face in baseball.

If Montgomery returns to the Texas Rangers, which has been suggested in recent reports, Snell becomes a priority.

The rotation needs help and with a massive season coming up after arguably the most disappointing season in the past two decades for New York, spending on pitching has to be a priority.

This lineup can be special if Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and others are healthy. The front office can't allow that to go to waste by not adding an ace similar to Snell.
