Yankees Reportedly Will Discuss Blockbuster Trade Monday For Padres' Juan Soto

The New York Yankees reportedly will engage in discussions about a possible blockbuster trade Monday. 

New York has long been rumored to be interested in acquiring San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto. At this point, it is almost a given that Soto will be traded and now it's just a question as to who will acquire him. The Yankees have been labeled as the favorites to land the superstar, but San Diego's initial ask was massive leading to the discussions to slow down.

Although this is the case, New York reportedly will discuss a possible deal with the Padres again on Monday, according to The Athletic's Brendan Kuty.

"Stalemate," Kuty said. "Impasse. Standstill. Whatever you want to call the awkward space occupied by the trade talks between the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres for superstar left fielder Juan Soto, just don't call them finished. While the sides seem to have cooled down their once-hot discussions, they're bound to heat back up as the Winter Meetings begin Monday, according to a league source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely.

"Whether it's on the phone or it's in a posh suite or at an overpriced restaurant or bar at the maze-like Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and A.J. Preller, his Padres counterpart, will re-engage over Soto, the 25-year-old lefty slugger who might wind up the best player traded all offseason."

Soto is one of the best players in baseball and immediately would fill New York's biggest need. The Yankees need to improve the middle of the lineup, add an outfielder, and a left-handed bat. Soto would help fix all of these issues. The biggest issue is the fact that New York will have to give up a king's ransom and Soto will be a free agent at the end of the 2024 season, but the Yankees need to make a major move. Soto could be the perfect addition.
