Russell Westbrook Ejected After Putting Up an Incredibly Strange Stat Line

Things got a little chippy Friday night between the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks during Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.

With the Mavericks up at home in the fourth quarter, Terance Mann got into it with PJ Washington, and both were assessed technical fouls. A few minutes later, Clippers guard Russell Westbrook wrapped up Luka Dončić and started another confrontation that ended with Westbrook and Washington getting ejected.

Everything about this sequence appeared to be an overreaction from Westbrook. From the hard foul to his reaction and his intense look deep into the soul of the ESPN camera, Westbrook was clearly in a mood.

It's not hard to tell why he was so frustrated. The Mavericks won the game easily—and he did not play well at all. Westbrook finished with just one point on 1-of-7 shooting and was also charged with a flagrant foul earlier in the game, giving him a historically weird stat line (one flagrant, two technical fouls, one point) that had only ever been previously accomplished by Kendrick Perkins.

Whatever Westbrook's intent on that play, it was clearly a flagrant foul. And in classic Russell Westbrook fashion, he then got into it with the fans.

Between that moment, the altercation in the fourth quarter and the stat line, it was just a nightmare game. Not just for Westbrook, but for the Clippers overall. Los Angeles now has lost two straight games and home court advantage in the series. The teams will resume the series on Sunday night at American Airlines Center.
