Two of the NBA’s best up to this point of the season square off today when the Philadelphia 76ers head out on the road to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Philly will enter this matchup with a 10-5 record, whereas OKC owns an 11-4 mark. 76ers vs. Thunder Prediction for Today's NBA Game

For Philadelphia, a big part of this game hinges on the health of Joel Embiid. He missed their last game due to his soreness, and it remains to be seen if he’ll suit up today. That was the second night of a back-to-back though, so we’ll operate under the assumption that it was a general rest day and he’ll be back for this one. The 76ers are 4-1 on the road this season when Embiid plays, so home-court advantage may not be as big of a deal for OKC as one might expect.

On the Thunder side of things, they’ve been absolutely rolling lately. They own victories in six straight contests and eight of their last nine. Almost all of those games have been against average or worse squads however, so this Philly team certainly presents a different matchup than they've been used to. One thing that should continue is their stellar defensive play, as they rank top 10 in the league in points allowed per game (ninth, 100.2), field goal percentage allowed (second, 43.2%) and three-point percentage (fifth, 34.1%).

The 76ers haven’t been too shabby on that end of the court either, as they rank in the top half of the NBA in those same categories as Oklahoma City. Add in the fact that Embiid missed last game, and may be a bit rusty in this one, so we anticipate a low-scoring affair taking place. With that being said, our favorite 76ers vs. Thunder prediction will side with the under 229 (-110) at DraftKings Sportsbook.

76ers vs. Thunder Best Bets, Picks & Player Props Featuring Tyrese Maxey

Tyrese Maxey has certainly taken the jump that many expected from him prior to this campaign, as he’s averaging a career high in points (26.3), rebounds (4.7), assists (7.1) and steals (0.8). Still, he’s been rather inconsistent, struggling to string together streaks of quality play without a below-average game or two sprinkled in there. Even without Embiid in their last matchup, Maxey scored just 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting.

He’s in a bit of a rut now with that last contest making his field goal percentage a relatively low 39% over his last six games. He’s also made just three of his last 17 three-point attempts. He’ll break out of this slump eventually, but it’s hard to envision it happening against this stout OKC defense. So, the best of our 76ers vs. Thunder player prop bets sees Maxey finishing under 25.5 points today (-115) at DraftKings Sportsbook.

There are a few questions surrounding the starting lineups today, between Embiid’s health for the 76ers and the murkiness of Josh Giddey’s availability for the Thunder. Assuming both are available for today, here’s what we expect the teams to trot out:

Philadelphia 76ers:

  • PG - Tyrese Maxey
  • SG - De’Anthony Melton
  • SF - Tobias Harris
  • PF - Robert Covington
  • C - Joel Embiid

Oklahoma City Thunder:

  • PG - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
  • SG - Josh Giddey

  • PF - Kenrich Williams
