76ers' G-League Coach Receives Monthly Honor
While the Philadelphia 76ers have had their fair of share success this season, having gotten as high as the third spot in the Eastern Conference, before starting to slide down the table following the injury of reigning MVP Joel Embiid.
While the Sixers have started to slip, the same can't be said for their G-League affiliated organization, the Delaware Blue Coats, who currently sit at the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
While the start to the month hasn't been too great for the Blue Coats, they dominated the G-League in February, going through the month with a record of 8-2, only dropping games to Cleveland Charge and Austin Spurs, the affiliates of the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs respectively.
Two of the biggest sources for their success in February were Darius Bazley, who recently returned from a short ten-day contract with the Sixers, as well as Terquavion Smith.
Similar to Bazley, Smith had a short stint in Philadelphia as the team was going through a nasty injury crisis at the time, averaging three points per game on 40 percent shooting across the 12 appearances.
While these two performed at their best to get the desired results for the Blue Coats, it would be their head coach Mike Longabardi, who would walk away with the recognition.
On Monday, Longabardi was named as the G-League Coach of the Month, due to the Blue Coats' stellar record through the month.
It is the 51-year-old's first time receiving the honor, which shouldn't come as too much of a shock given that this is his first season in charge of a team, having served as an assistant coach in some capacity for several NBA organizations.
With the team in such fine form and playoffs right around the corner, it's safe to say that Longabardi wouldn't be opposed to earning more accolades as the season progresses.
