Kyle Lowry Willing to Embrace any Role With 76ers
When the dust from the trade deadline settled, the Philadelphia 76ers made upgrades to the roster in the buyout market. After parting ways with the Charlotte Hornets, Kyle Lowry inked a deal with his hometown team in free agency.
Due to the timing of the signing, Lowry didn't get the chance to suit up for the Sixers before the All-Star break. On Wednesday, the former All-Star had the opportunity to get a full practice in with his new team.
Once practice concluded, Lowry spoke to the media for the first time since signing in Philly. He proceeded to open up on embracing any role that helps the team win games.
"My job is to make sure this team gets to a point where they haven't been in a while," Lowry said. "My job is to do everything I need to do to make this team & this organization better - no matter what the role is, what the minutes are, what the situation is."
As he gets ready to turn 38, Lowry is not the All-Star-level player he once was. However, he is still capable of providing quality minutes at the point guard position. Before getting traded to the Hornets, Lowry averaged 8.2 PPG and 4.0 APG while shooting 38.5% from deep for the Miami Heat.
With Patrick Beverley being dealt at the deadline, the Sixers have a void to fill at the backup point guard spot. This is likely where Lowry will slide in, with Cam Payne getting opportunities as well.
Above all, Lowry brings leadership and experience on an off the floor. Having a former champion in the locker room should prove to be beneficial come playoff time.
