Sixers Veteran Clowns Tyrese Maxey for Missing Triple-Double vs. Heat
Kyle Lowry poked fun at Tyrese Maxey for not chasing down rebounds against the Miami Heat.
Thursday night’s Philadelphia 76ers victory over the Miami Heat nearly featured a first-career accomplishment for the one-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey.
While double-doubles have become more frequent for the team’s starting point guard, Maxey has yet to notch a triple-double in his career.
The fourth-year veteran nearly had one on Thursday night, but Maxey came one rebound short of getting it done.
When discussing the impact of Maxey’s performance after the victory over the Heat on Thursday, 76ers veteran guard Kyle Lowry jokingly took a jab at the young guard for coming up short in the triple-double department.
“Did he get a triple-double?” Lowry asked a reporter. “Ah, he’s a stupid guy… I would’ve chased down a rebound,” he finished.
Maxey led the Sixers in shots taken and minutes played on Thursday night. From the field, he scored on 15 of his 26 attempts. The young guard scored a game-high 37 points, while dishing out 11 assists. He came down with nine rebounds, which was also one shy of his career-high.
The Sixers needed a win on Thursday night, as it could have a major impact on the 2024 playoff race. Fortunately, Philadelphia put the Heat away with a 109-105 victory. With that win, the Sixers advanced to 42-35 on the year. They are still eighth in the Eastern Conference, but they are very much still in play for the eighth seed.
Meanwhile, from a personal standpoint, Maxey continues to strengthen his Most Improved Player campaign. In 66 games, the young guard has produced a career-high 26 points while knocking down 45 percent of his field goals and 37 percent of his threes. He also improved in the playmaking department by dishing out six assists per game while keeping turnovers to just 1.7 per outing.
