Sixers Reveal Joel Embiid’s Injury Status vs. Spurs
What's Joel Embiid's status on the Philadelphia 76ers' injury report against the Spurs?
The last time the Philadelphia 76ers took on the San Antonio Spurs, Joel Embiid dominated by putting together the most prominent performance of his career.
Back in late January, the Spurs visited the Sixers in South Philly. At the time, Embiid was putting together an outstanding follow-up campaign to his MVP-winning season.
He checked in for nearly 37 minutes against San Antonio, and shot an efficient 59 percent from the field on 41 shots. By the end of the night, Embiid scored a career-high 70 points. He made it a double-double performance as he came down with 18 rebounds as well.
The big man’s contributions helped the Sixers collect a ten-point win at the time. That game became his third-to-last before he went down with an injury that would sideline him for multiple months.
On January 30, Embiid suffered a meniscus injury against the Golden State Warriors. He ended up undergoing a corrective procedure, which took him off the floor for eight weeks. Earlier this week, Embiid returned to action against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
In his first game back after missing nearly 30 games, Embiid checked in for 29 minutes. He knocked down six of his 14 shots from the field and went 12-12 from the charity stripe. The big man produced 24 points in the four-point win over the Thunder.
Two nights later, Embiid returned to the court to face the Miami Heat. He saw a slight increase in minutes as he checked in for 32 minutes. Once again, he was a key helper in the Sixers’ four-point victory over Miami, as the seven-time All-Star scored 29 points.
On Saturday night, the Sixers fired up a back-to-back set with Embiid in the mix. Fortunately, the Memphis Grizzlies couldn’t stop the Sixers’ attack as Philly collected a 20-point win. Embiid got an early night off, heading to the bench for good with just 22 minutes of playing time. The Sixers’ big man scored 30 points, 12 rebounds, and one assist.
Despite an early night, Embiid will not make it out on the court for Sunday's back-to-back finale against the Spurs. According to the injury report, Embiid is listed as out.
The Sixers and the Spurs will go toe-to-toe at 7 PM ET on Sunday.
