Former Celtic Lands with Wizards

It's been a trying season in the nation's capital. At 9-45, the Washington Wizards have the second-worst record in the NBA.

Their lack of development prompted them to make a coaching change, moving on from Wes Unseld Jr. after two-and-a-half seasons. They promoted Winchester, MA native Brian Keefe.

An NBA assistant coach since 2007, his long-awaited opportunity already includes the chance to coach against his hometown Boston Celtics, whom he said growing up, he was "a huge fan of," during his pregame media availability that night.

Keefe and the Wizards impressed on the parquet, nearly upsetting the hosts, who are 26-3 at TD Garden. Washington, who entered that matchup averaging 114.5. points, produced at least 35 in three of four quarters in a 133-129 loss.

As they continue experimenting with their roster with an eye toward the future, the Wizards have signed former Celtic Justin Champagnie to a 10-day contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The six-foot-six wing joined the Miami Heat for training camp, then produced 22.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest for their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, this season.

After signing with the Celtics late in the 2022-23 campaign, the Brooklyn, NY native appeared in two games, averaging 2.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 11.5 minutes per contest.
