NBA Legend Blasts Charles Barkley for Ripping Kevin Durant
It's no secret that Charles Barkley likes to criticize Kevin Durant at every opportunity he can get. There's one person who wants to stick up for Durant though, and that's former Grizzlies player Gilbert Arenas.
On the newest episode of the Gil's Arena Show, Gilbert Arenas lit into Charles Barkley for calling Kevin Durant a follower.
"We all know about Houston because he didn't get a ring in Phoenix when he was chasing a ring in Phoenix, then he went to the Houston Rockets trying to join that team to beat Michael Jordan," Arenas said. "The reason they failed was because he was overweight out of shape."
For as much as Arenas wanted to defend Durant, his criticism of Barkley is a bit inaccurate from the standpoint that Barkley didn't join Houston in his prime. He joined the Rockets at age 34, three years before he retired. Still, Kevin Durant was actually 34 himself when joining the Phoenix Suns.
"When you call somebody a follower, not a leader, let us know which team that you lead or was leading," Arenas said. "Being the best player on the Suns, you didn't lead. That team already had captains and was already established before you got there. He bailed out on Philadelphia. Whatever you have this grudge with someone like Kevin Durant, you need to look back at yourself and look back at your f**king career."
To some degree, Gilbert Arenas makes sense in what he's saying. However, to say Charles Barkley didn't lead the Phoenix Suns is just an illogical statement. It's nowhere near the same as Durant joining the 73-9 Warriors. It isn't just Barkley that speaks the way he does toward Kevin Durant either, it's most NBA legends and fans. Something Arenas may just need to accept.
