Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Play-In Preview
Preview
The 2022-23 regular season was dreadful for the Atlanta Hawks. Besides their 41-41 record, the organization had to overhaul its front office and coaching staff on the fly. It was not what the team had envisioned after trading for Dejounte Murray last spring.
However, a win tonight against the Miami Heat would go a long way toward saving this season and exorcising some demons from last year. After advancing out of the Play-In Tournament, Atlanta got beat up, beat down, and bullied by Miami in a brief five-game first-round series.
The gentleman's sweep gave life to the saying, "Ice melts in Miami." It's a not-so-subtle shot at Trae Young's struggles against the Heat. Miami took three of the four regular season games against Atlanta, including a back-to-back sweep at home in early March.
Despite running it back with the same roster (or perhaps because they made few changes), Miami has not enjoyed the same level of success this year. A win today, and they face the 2-seed Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. A loss to their Southeast Division little brother, and the veteran-laden team will be forced to play another Play-In game for a shot at the one-seed Milwaukee Bucks.
Injury Report
Miami's injury report lists Max Strus (finger) as probable, Kyle Lowry (knee) as questionable, and Nikola Jovic (back) as out. Atlanta does not have any injuries to report at this time.
