ESPN Analyst Kendrick Perkins Has Little Faith In The Miami Heat
ESPN analyst and former NBA player Kendrick Perkins is not confident that the Miami Heat will replicate their recent playoff success.
The Heat fell 110-106 to the Boston Celtics on Sunday. After the game, ESPN Bet gave the Heat +1700 odds to win the East. Perkins was asked about the team’s chances to make it back to the NBA Finals and initially gave a comedic response.
“There’s a better chance of me actually losing weight this year, and it’s not happening,” Perkins said.
He continued on by comparing the Heat and Jimmy Butler to the big NFL story on Sunday.
“The Heat are not gonna sneak up on anyone, and the Heat does not have a Patrick Mahomes," Perkins said. “Patrick Mahomes is the guy that can take any given player, put in any given circumstances and bring them home. Jimmy, he has fallen short every single time he’s reached the NBA Finals.”
Perkins finished off his stance by proclaiming that the Heat would not even make it out of the first round.
The Heat sit as the eighth seed in the East after Sunday’s loss. The team finished the regular season in the same position last year. The Heat ended up reaching the NBA Finals last year. It was just the second time ever that an eight-seed made it that far in the playoffs. Who is to say that it can’t happen again?
The Heat have enjoyed recent playoff success as well. The team reached the 2020 NBA Finals as the fifth seed. The Heat also made it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals two years ago.
Some Heat fans did not agree with what the analyst had to say. After all, Perkins did lose in the 2012 NBA Finals to the Heat.
