Is Tyler Herro’s Value Diminished after Miami’s Historic Playoff Run?
After the Miami Heat’s playoff run as a No. 8 seed, it raises the question of how much value Tyler Herro adds to the roster.
Herro broke his right hand in Game 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round, sidelining him for the remainder of the playoffs. Without Herro, the Heat's third-leading scorer, they seemed unaffected by his loss until the NBA Finals loss against the Denver Nuggets.
Despite being cleared to return, coach Erik Spoelstra decided against playing Herro in Game 5.
It is clear that everyone in the locker room wanted Herro back on the court. During the playoffs, Heat star Jimmy Butler was asked about Tyler’s injury and said “Everybody in this league understands and knows the caliber of player that Tyler is. Obviously, we're going to miss him, obviously, we want him out there competing with us on both sides of the floor.”
His value is not diminished due to the outcome of the playoffs as in the finals, the Heat could have greatly benefited from having another scorer. Max Struss and Gabe Vincent had poor shooting nights in the Finals, making it hard to stretch the floor.
At 23, Herro has yet to hit his prime but the Heat have a decision to make this offseason. They can either include him in the future or opt to include him trade deals. The Heat have already been linked to Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal and Kyrie Irving as targets during free agency.
The next few weeks will tell.
