Jamal Cain Leads Miami Heat In Scoring In Absence Of Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro

The Miami Heat were defeated by Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in their second preseason game on Friday night.
In the absence of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and more, forward Jamal Cain was the star of the show for Miami. Cain played 26 minutes, scoring 24 points on 64.3 percent shooting to go along with 10 rebounds.
Cain is signed on a two-way contract but is a frontrunner alongside forward Cole Swidder to receive a regular-season contract. In the Heat’s preseason opener against the Charlotte Hornets, Swider led the way with 17 points on 55.6 percent shooting.
In that game, Cain played a team-low five minutes due to much of Miami's roster playing in the first half. In San Antonio, he was given a chance to shine, and that he did. After missing out on Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard this offseason, Miami is looking to move forward with their traditional approach.
Players such as Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and Duncan Robinson earned multi-year contracts after performing in the Heat’s system. Cain and Swider are hoping to cement themselves as the next of these under-the-radar talents.
The Heat’s next game is against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.
