Norris Cole Details How Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem Warned About Trade Deadline
Former Miami Heat guard Norris Cole was fortunate to have a couple veterans to explain the deal at the NBA trade deadline.
In 2015, Cole heard his name in various trade scenarios. So he sought the advice of Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem, who had experienced this time of the year several times.
They gave the young Cole a crash course. He told the story while speaking on the Gilbert Arenas podcast.
"At first, it was a normal day but I was told by my OGs," Cole said. "D-Wade and UD told me if you ever get called in the office and they tell you we're not thinking about trading you, you're about to get traded."
Sure enough, Cole was called into team president Pat Riley's office a few days later.
"I had that meeting with Pat,' Cole said. "[It was] like, `Don't listen to any rumors. you're young in this game it's going to be a lot of things with the trade deadline coming up but you're ok with us."'
Cole immediately thought back to his conversation with Wade and Haslem. After being the Heat's first-round pick in 2011, he was traded in a three-way deal to the New Orleans Pelicans.
"I was preparing myself but you can't be prepared until you know," Cole said. "When I found out, I didn't find out from my team. I found out through my agent and on the ticker."
