For a second straight year, the Miami Heat are expected to use the buyout period to strengthen their roster.

According to an ESPN report, the Heat are looking to add Washington Wizards guard Delon Wright. The Wizards have reportedly agreed to buyout Wright, allowing him opportunity to join the Heat.

Wright, 31, was averaging 4.1 points and 2.5 assists this season with the Wizards. A former first-round pick in 2015, he has played on seven teams in his career.

"Washington Wizards guard Delon Wright has agreed on a contract buyout, clearing the way for him to sign with the Miami Heat upon clearing waivers, his agent Greg Lawrence tells ESPN," wrote ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Another dependable veteran for the Heat’s rotation."

Wright's best season was in 2020-21 when he averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds with the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings. His potential addition follows the Heat adding future Hall of Famer Kevin Love at last year's deadline. Love was a key contributor in the Heat making the NBA Finals, where they lost in five games to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
