While the Utah Jazz could not pull out a win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night, falling 134-120, it was not without one of their rookies stuffing the stat sheet and setting some franchise history.

Keyonte George has already been off to a great start to his first season in the NBA, but this game was different. He posted a career-high of 30 points, alongside three rebounds and seven assists. It was all on some of the best efficiency we have seen from him this year, shooting 58.8% from the field and an elite 55.6% from deep.

After his 30-point bomb, George is now the youngest Jazz player to score at least 30 in a game at 20 years and 33 days old. It surpasses Gordon Hayward’s 34-point outing in 2011 when he was 21 years and 21 days old.

Keyonte is also the youngest Jazz player to record 30 points and seven assists in the same game by over a year, with Trey Burke trailing behind at 21 years and 33 days old back in 2013.

In a game without Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, or Walker Kessler in the starting frontcourt, the focus effectively shifted to the backcourt to recover some of the production lost. George, along with Collin Sexton (20 pts, 53.8% FG), were the ones to step up to the task.

While it didn’t end up with a W, seeing the rook shine against one of this season's more talented teams in the league is an extremely telling sign of his development. The 16th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft is doing it all on the offensive end and provides continued optimism that he can be the point guard of this team’s future.

Keyonte will have the chance to build off of his career performance on Wednesday when the New York Knicks travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Jazz at 7 PM MT.
