Kings Stars Snubbed in Second Wave of All-Star Voting
The Sacramento Kings have two undeniable All-Star players in G De'Aaron Fox and C Domantas Sabonis, yet the pair continue to get snubbed in All-Star voting as we approach the February 18 game.
In the 2024 All-Star game, the 10 starting players are selected through a fan vote (50%), a player vote (25%), and a media vote (25%). In the second wave of returns, De'Aaron Fox is the eighth guard on vote count and 16th overall player total vote-wise. Domantas Sabonis has been completely left off the list despite a dominant season being rivaled by none other than MVP C Nikola Jokic in many instances.
Sabonis is averaging 20.2 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 7.7 assists so far this season. His rebound average is a league-high, and has 9 triple-doubles this season, including 7 in his last 13 games - good enough for second in the league behind Jokic's 11. Sabonis also is first in the NBA in double-doubles this season, with 33 in 37 games. He also is 7th on the MVP ladder.
Fox has made another fantastic jump this year, and while he has seemed to slow down the past week, he is still performing at an All-Star level. Fox is averaging 27.9 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. His 27.9-point average is good for 6th best in the NBA.
De'Aaron Fox is well aware of how consistent and dominant Sabonis has been, and previously had the following to say about Domas' All-Star game chances:
"He does this for the most part night in and night out... He'll get in, coaches will do the right thing"
The coaches will vote for the 14 reserve players to make the All-Star game after the starters vote goes through, and while either may not be getting the recognition they deserve, it would be disrespectful to basketball if both players are not in Indianapolis in mid-February.
